The French high school in Murcia, Spain

The students of a Grade 4 class from the French school in Murcia, Spain describe their school and way of life.

In our school students range from 2 to 18 years old.  That surprises you?  There is a simple explanation: in our school there is also secondary school.  Don't worry, I can promise you we don't all play in the same school yard.  The little kids in the daycare have their own “little park” to play in.

In case you hadn't noticed it, our school is a French school in Spain and we learn three languages: French, Spanish and English, even though almost everything is taught in French (Math, Science, Geography, History, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Computers, Music, Literature, and of course, French Grammar!).

Since we are in a French school in Spain, our vacations are the same as school vacations in France but we also have Spanish holidays (like the 6 January because we celebrate the visit of the Magi)
There are 27 students in our class, mostly French and Spanish, but there is one Belgian and an English girl.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday we start at 9 a.m. and we finish at 12:45 p.m. with a small break from 11:00 until 11:30, when we can play ball, chess, etc.. Recently we have been playing with tops.  At lunch some students eat at the cafeteria and then take part in activities like chess, judo, music, etc..  In the afternoon school starts again at 2:40 p.m. and continues until 4:40 p.m..  Wednesday is a short day.  We only have school in the morning from 9 a.m. to noon.

We have a principal, two Spanish teachers and an English teacher.  We really like Math and Physical Education.  Once a week our principal and our Spanish teacher do a “double” hour: where we do French and Spanish grammar together. This allows us to compare the two languages.  Sometimes we have visitors or we go on field trips (to the theater, in nature...).

Here, in Murcia, it isn't very cold in winter and it doesn't rain very often.  When it does rain we love getting wet and jumping in the puddles.  In summer it is super, super, super hot and we have to wear caps for protection from the sun and make sure to drink a lot of water.  During the months when it is hot, after school we are in a rush to get to a swimming pool!
